Dr. Simon Langan
About the Speaker
Simon Langan, PhD, has extensive experience in international research for development with over 20 years’ experience as a senior/principal researcher with a strong management background. He currently leads the Water Program at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Vienna, Austria. Previously he has experience in Africa and Europe.
Simon holds a doctoral degree in land use and water quality from the University of St. Andrews, UK. His PhD was followed by a three year post-doctoral fellowship in Imperial College, London, UK. His subsequent project and organizational experience has been with various international organizations and centered on a multi/interdisciplinary approach.
Simon has an extensive number of publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as experience in policy-related analyses, including over 120 papers, technical reports, books/chapters and conference proceedings.
His experience in Europe and Africa and more recently at the global scale have generated information to increase knowledge and provide the evidence base to inform policy and practice. An essential element of this is to increase both individual and organizational capacity. Throughout his career he has won grants and secured funding from regional through to international donor projects, including from the private sector including the EU 7th Framework, Natural Environment Research Council, National Power, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, USAID, and Canadian Government.
