Remote Sensing and GIS Associate

Background

The selected candidate will work as a Research Associate for Remote sensing applications in earth observation. These applications include but are not limited to, smart agriculture, flood monitoring and forecasting, water energy balance, water quality, calibrating global water cycle/ flood prediction models, and formulating sampling strategies for in-situ data sampling via fieldwork. The candidate will be responsible for problem analysis, solution (re-)search, and providing technical oversights to the allotted tasks. 

Qualification

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Remote Sensing, GIS, Disaster management, Environmental Science, or a related field from an HEC recognised institution.
  • Certifications/diplomas in remote sensing and GIS (if any)

Experience

  • Previous experience working with remote sensing and GIS technologies, preferably in a professional or academic setting.
  • Experience in applying remote sensing and GIS techniques to environmental monitoring, natural resource management, hydrology, agriculture, or other relevant fields.
  • Familiarity with different remote sensing platforms and datasets, and their applications for research.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Strong knowledge and experience in remote sensing techniques including image acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Relevant software tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, or similar platforms for spatial data analysis, mapping, and visualization.
  • Proficiency in GIS software Familiarity with satellite imagery, aerial photography, LiDAR, SAR and other remote sensing data sources.
  • Ability to utilize programming languages such as Python, R, or JavaScript for automation and analysis tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and extract meaningful insights from spatial data.
  • Ability to perform spatial analysis, geo statistics, and modeling to solve complex problems.
  • Attention to detail in data processing and analysis to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. 

Additional Information

  • Working schedule: Standard 40 hours per week.
  • Location: WIT premises, LUMS campus. 
  • Travel: The job may require travel for research and field-related tasks
