We are pleased to announce four paid summer internship positions (June–August 2026) exclusively for LUMS students, offered in collaboration between the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT) LUMS and Open Energy Transition (OET).

These internships provide an opportunity to work remotely with the Open Energy Transition team on improving the quality, accessibility, and usability of energy data in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s energy sector is undergoing a major transformation, driven by rapid electrification, increasing solar adoption, and growing demand for reliable infrastructure planning. High-quality open data is critical to enabling informed decision-making by researchers, policymakers, and investors.

Internship Focus Areas:

Interns will contribute to one or more of the following areas:

  • Creating a nationwide representation of Pakistan’s electrical grid using AI-assisted mapping methods
  • Identifying and filling critical gaps in existing open grid datasets
  • Building datasets to estimate residential rooftop solar PV installations and utility-scale solar capacity
  • Using AI-assisted and traditional data-processing techniques to clean, validate, and visualize energy data

Who Should Apply?

We are looking for students who have:

  • Strong attention to detail and patience for data validation and quality work
  • Interest in Pakistan’s energy transition
  • Programming skills (especially Python or similar tools)
  • Familiarity with GIS or other mapping tools
  • Interest in energy systems or climate-related work
  • Basic online research or data investigation skills
