Executive Director of the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT), Dr. Abubakr Muhammad, delivered an insightful talk to the students at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on 31st March 2023. The session was arranged as a part of the Electrical Engineering department’s outreach activity for graduate admissions.

In his session, Dr. Abubakr highlighted the pressing need for an integrated approach to tackle the water problems faced in the Indus Basin and emphasized on the critical role that technology can play in this regard. He also gave a comprehensive overview of the Centre's efforts to deal with these challenges through data-driven hydrological modeling and demand-based agricultural water management. Stressing upon the need to switch to more sustainable practices in agriculture, he shed light on some of the key practices that can be powered by technological interventions and mechanization (Agri-Tech) in the sector.

He also utilized this opportunity to promote the Centre's ongoing research projects, highlighting the PhD and MS projects currently being offered to students. Joudat Bint Khalil, who is a MS Electrical Engineering alumnus and is currently leading a project on achieving net zero strategies by modeling greenhouse gas emissions and developing low emission pathways, joined in to talk about her experience of being at WIT. LCWU alumni- Rida Zainab (research associate-WIT) and Khansa Tariq (PhD candidate-WIT) also shared their journey of pursuing research and graduate study at one of Pakistan's leading institutions.
