WIT Participates in Global Effort to Promote SDG Education in the Hindu Kush–Karakoram–Himalaya (HKH) Region
Dr. Talha Manzoor from the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT), LUMS, participated in a three-day international workshop held in Nepal from October 29 to 31, 2025. The event, titled “Promoting Himalayan Development by Strengthening Teaching and Research on Sustainable Development Goals (ForHim SDG),” was jointly organized by Kathmandu University (Nepal), the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand), the University of Groningen (Netherlands), and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (Germany). The workshop brought together researchers, academics, and practitioners from across the region and beyond to explore ways to advance sustainability-focused education and research.
Held at a time when global progress toward achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) remains off track, the workshop highlighted the pressing need for stronger regional and international collaboration. The Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region—spanning eight countries, including Nepal—faces distinct challenges that demand collective efforts to achieve SDGS.
The primary objective of the ForHim SDG workshop was to strengthen teaching and research capacities related to the SDGs by fostering collaboration among universities and research institutions across Asia and Europe. It focused on building the capacity of faculty members to integrate sustainability into higher education through innovative teaching methods, curriculum design, and joint research initiatives.
The workshop was part of the ForHimSDG project being led by Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) Germany, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, and Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal.
