WIT Showcases Indigenous Environmental Sensing Technology at ITCN Asia 2026
The Centre for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT) took part in ITCN Asia 2026, held at the Karachi Expo Centre from 22 to 24 September, exhibiting on the platform of the National Centre of Robotics and Automation (NCRA). This year's edition was the 28th, bringing together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and innovation ecosystems at an information technology and telecom exhibition and conference organised by Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan.
At the stand, the WIT team presented six technologies developed and field-tested in Pakistan: the Canal Gauge for real-time water-level telemetry in irrigation networks, the Soil Moisture Sensor for irrigation decision support, the AWD Tube for water-efficient rice cultivation, the IoT Automatic Weather Station, the All Purpose AI Camera with onboard edge computing, and IntelliWarn, a solar-powered, off-grid early warning system for floods.

The common thread across these systems is low-cost, low-power sensing built for the conditions of Pakistan's farms, canals, and mountain catchments, where grid power and reliable connectivity cannot be taken for granted.
The exhibition drew strong interest from technology companies, development sector organisations, and government contractors. Visitors were particularly drawn to the Soil Moisture Sensor, reflecting growing demand for data-driven irrigation in agriculture. The team also held productive discussions on local LoRaWAN development, weather monitoring for development programmes, and technology for provincial government projects, several of which are now being taken forward.
Participating in ITCN Asia gave the team valuable insight into how industry and the public sector view the practical applications of environmental sensing and where these technologies can create the most value.
WIT thanks NCRA for providing the platform and everyone who visited the stand.
