WIT–WCS Sign MoU to Advance Collaborative Research

The Centre for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT) at LUMS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Weather and Climate Services (WCS) to strengthen collaboration in addressing national, regional, and Global South challenges. The agreement aims to foster strategic partnerships and joint ventures, particularly in the areas of climate science, water management, and the energy sector.

Through this platform, both organizations have committed to advancing multidisciplinary research initiatives and promoting knowledge exchange to generate impactful, evidence-based solutions. The MoU lays the foundation for collaborative research projects, capacity-building programs, and innovative technological interventions that respond to pressing environmental and developmental challenges.

Representing WCS, Dr. Marium Saleh Khan and her team highlighted their critical work in delivering climate services and serving as a bridge to enhance active cooperation and networking across sectors. From WIT’s side, Dr. Abubakr Muhammad and Dr. Muhammad Awais represented the Centre and presented its core research areas, outlining ongoing projects and strategic priorities.

The WCS delegation was also given a tour of WIT’s Development Laboratory, where the laboratory team delivered a comprehensive presentation on the indigenous sensors developed and deployed by WIT. The visit included interactive sessions with WIT’s research staff and students, who shared insights into their current research projects and technological innovations.

This partnership marks an important step toward strengthening institutional collaboration and leveraging scientific expertise to address complex climate and water-related challenges.
