The Electrical Engineering open day, hosted on 18th February 2023, provided an opportunity for prospective MS and Ph.D. students to explore the department and its state-of-the-art facilities. The students got an opportunity to explore the EE department and the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology and learn about the diverse and dynamic research themes and available projects.

After the welcome remarks by Dr. Momin Uppal and the visit of the EE department labs, the participants also got the opportunity to visit the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology, where they learned about the Centre’s ongoing projects in data-driven hydrological monitoring, cryosphere monitoring, demand-based irrigation management, climate-smart digital and sustainable agricultural practices, among other research themes. The participants were also shown the high-end equipment available at the Centre, such as drones, multispectral cameras, and various in-house developed technologies. The lab team conducted short demos to explain the significance of these devices for the Centre’s research objectives. The event concluded with a tour of the LUMS campus.

This event helped the potential graduate students gain a deeper insight into the culture and research portfolio of the Electrical Engineering department. It also provided a valuable opportunity to witness how researchers at WIT work to realize the Centre’s goal of providing sustainable solutions and introducing innovative practices to address problems in the water sector of Pakistan.

A fully funded Ph.D. opportunity is also open at the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology around developing integrated assessment models for sustainable pathways in the Water-Energy-Food-Climate nexus. More information about the opportunity and application process can be found here
