Water Policy in Pakistan Unveiled: WIT Hosts Insightful Book Launch Event

The Centre for Water Informatics and Technology (WIT) recently hosted a book launch event on December 15, 2023, at SBASSE, LUMS, unveiling the publication 'Water Policy in Pakistan: Issues and Options.' The event commenced with a networking session, setting the stage for the day.  

Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Acting Vice Chancellor, LUMS, extended a warm welcome during the opening remarks, initiating the programme that was divided into two segments. Following the welcome address, Dr. Abubakr Muhammad, Director, WIT, provided a comprehensive introduction to both the Centre (WIT) and the focal point of the event, the book 'Water Policy in Pakistan.' Dr. Mahmood Ahmad, Editor, Water Policy in Pakistan: Issues and Options, and former professor of practice at WIT further elaborated on the transformational agenda of the book and the way forward. 

The first half of the event featured engaging individual talks by esteemed authors, delving into specific chapters from the book. Dr. Mohsin Hafeez explored "Pakistan’s Water Resources Potential," Dr. Hamid Jalil presented "Agenda: Water and Agriculture," and Dr. James Wescoat shared insights on "Developing Knowledge Capacity and Wisdom." 

Transitioning into the second half, the event unfolded into a stimulating panel discussion with distinguished authors. Notable contributors included Dr. Mahmood Ahmad, Dr. Fozia Parveen, Former Adjunct Faculty at WIT, currently affiliated with Aga Khan University, Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED); Mr. Asif Sharif from Pedaver, Private Limited, Lahore; Dr. Sanval Nasim from Colby College, Waterville, Maine; Dr. Asif Khan from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar; Dr. Ghulam Zakir-Hassan from Irrigation Research Institute (IRI), Government of Punjab, Irrigation Department; and Dr. Azeem Shah from the International Water Management Institute, Pakistan. 

Attendees experienced insightful talks, a dynamic panel discussion, and an engaging Q&A session. The occasion served as a significant platform for addressing critical issues in water policy, with experts and authors contributing to a rich tapestry of discussions and insights.
